AFA Scotland provides a wide range of training opportunities to support practitioners involved in adoption, fostering and the care of looked after children. There are two main options - either sign up to one of the events from our training programme (these include workshops, seminars, conferences and spotlight sessions as listed in the training schedule) or get in touch to ask us to run a bespoke training event for practitioners in your area (examples of which are provided in the training catalogue).
By supporting the continuing professional development of practitioners, the service also helps agencies to comply with the requirements of the National Care Standards for Fostering and Adoption in relation to staff training and development.
AFA Scotland also runs postgraduate level courses namely, 'Securing Children's Futures' – good practice in permanence planning and family placement and ‘Relative Matters’ - good practice in permanence planning in kinship care in conjunction with Strathclyde University. These courses provide an excellent opportunity for more experienced social workers to develop the specialist skills and knowledge relevant to adoption and fostering work.
